Ascii converter
ASCII conversion for debugging and test data
Use the ASCII converter when a program, protocol, or exercise represents characters as decimal codes. It provides a quick two-way check between printable text and code points in the basic ASCII table, which is especially useful while troubleshooting parsers and fixtures.
Useful scenarios
- Build decimal character sequences for a test case.
- Decode values copied from a log, packet description, or lesson.
- Confirm capitalization and punctuation at the character level.
Recommended workflow
- Select the direction that matches the source format.
- Separate decimal values clearly when decoding a sequence.
- Compare the output with a trusted table before using it in production logic.
Technical example
The characters A, a, and 0 map to different decimal values: 65, 97, and 48. Their visual similarity does not make the codes interchangeable.
Limitations and safety
ASCII is not the same as Unicode. UTF-8 text containing emoji or accented characters may require multiple bytes and should be inspected with a Unicode-aware tool.
