Quick answer: Enter a HEX color to get RGB immediately. For example, #ff8800 becomes rgb(255, 136, 0).

Enter 3 or 6 hexadecimal digits, with an optional #; for example #f80 or #ff8800.

About this hex to rgb converter

This HEX to RGB converter turns a HEX color into decimal red, green and blue channels for CSS rules, canvas code or an application color field. Use it when a color supplied in HEX needs to fit a RGB workflow. The result updates as you type and can be copied or selected directly.

Enter 3 or 6 hexadecimal digits, with an optional #; for example #f80 or #ff8800. HEX packs red, green and blue into pairs of base sixteen digits. FF means 255, 88 means 136, and 00 means zero, so #ff8800 is an orange with full red and no blue. Missing components, invalid digits and out of range values show a readable error and clear the previous result, so an old color is never presented as the conversion of invalid input.

A worked HEX to RGB example is #ff8800 becoming rgb(255, 136, 0). The result uses rgb(red, green, blue) with integer channels. Fractional source channels are retained during calculation and rounded only when formatting this output. The arithmetic uses the standard sRGB channel model; this is a notation conversion, not a display calibration or a transformation into a printing color profile.

Both HEX and RGB describe opaque color. This conversion does not invent a transparency channel. Hue wraps around the color wheel when relevant, and all channel calculations retain fractional precision until the final result is formatted.

Compare the RGB result with the live swatch before using it. A screen's brightness and color settings can change its appearance, and rounded output may lose a small amount of precision on repeated conversions. Everything runs locally in your browser; no color values are uploaded or saved by this tool.

How do I read the RGB result?

Split a six digit HEX value into three pairs, reading from left to right: red, green, then blue. Each pair is a number written in base sixteen. The digits 0 to 9 have their usual values; A, B, C, D, E and F stand for ten through fifteen. Multiply the first digit of a pair by sixteen and add the second digit. That gives one decimal channel between zero and 255. The converter applies this operation to each pair independently.

For the example #ff8800, FF is 15 × 16 + 15 = 255. The green pair 88 is 8 × 16 + 8 = 136, and the blue pair 00 is zero. The complete result is rgb(255, 136, 0). It describes the same channel values using decimal notation. You can check the green value separately rather than judging correctness from the orange swatch, whose appearance depends on your screen and its settings.

Can I enter a short HEX color?

Yes. Three digit notation repeats each digit before decoding. The short color #f80 therefore expands to #ff8800 and produces the same RGB result. It does not mean the three decimal numbers 15, 8 and 0. Compare #000 with #000000: both give rgb(0, 0, 0). Uppercase and lowercase letters are accepted, and the leading hash is optional. Spaces surrounding the value are removed, but invalid digits within it remain errors.

Which input errors should I check?

This page accepts exactly three or six HEX digits. A four digit value such as #f808 or an eight digit value such as #ff880080 includes opacity and belongs in the HEXA to RGB tool. A five digit value is incomplete. A letter beyond F is not a HEX digit. When input is invalid the previous result is cleared; correct the input before copying a result. Do not remove an opacity byte without first deciding whether you need to preserve transparency or blend the original color against a background.

Does converting HEX to RGB change the color?

A valid six digit input already contains integer channels, so this conversion does not need to round them. It changes notation rather than the color space. The RGB output can be pasted into a CSS color declaration, but it cannot calibrate a monitor, predict printed ink, or tell you whether text has enough contrast. Check a color in the destination design with its actual background and surrounding colors. If you need opacity in the result, choose HEX to RGBA instead of adding an unsupported fourth component to this tool's input.

How do I convert HEX to RGB?

Enter 3 or 6 hexadecimal digits, with an optional #; for example #f80 or #ff8800. The RGB result and swatch update immediately; use Copy result or select the output text.

What happens to opacity in HEX to RGB conversion?

Both HEX and RGB describe opaque color. This conversion does not invent a transparency channel. Hue wraps around the color wheel when relevant, and all channel calculations retain fractional precision until the final result is formatted.

How precise is the RGB result?

The result uses rgb(red, green, blue) with integer channels. Fractional source channels are retained during calculation and rounded only when formatting this output.

Can I use this RGB result in CSS?

Yes. The RGB output is a CSS color notation. HEXA puts alpha last; verify support in older clients if your project targets legacy browsers.
