Quick answer: Enter a RGB color to get HEX immediately. For example, rgb(255, 136, 0) becomes #ff8800.

Enter three channels from 0 to 255, or 0% to 100%, such as rgb(255, 136, 0) or 255 136 0.

About this rgb to hex converter

This RGB to HEX converter turns a RGB color into a compact six digit CSS color for borders, backgrounds, SVG fills or a design token. Use it when a color supplied in RGB needs to fit a HEX workflow. The result updates as you type and can be copied or selected directly.

Enter three channels from 0 to 255, or 0% to 100%, such as rgb(255, 136, 0) or 255 136 0. RGB describes additive red, green and blue channels. A value of 255 is a full channel and zero turns it off. Percentage channels scale linearly, with 100 percent equal to 255. Missing components, invalid digits and out of range values show a readable error and clear the previous result, so an old color is never presented as the conversion of invalid input.

A worked RGB to HEX example is rgb(255, 136, 0) becoming #ff8800. The result uses lowercase #RRGGBB. Each channel is rounded to the nearest integer from zero to 255 before encoding it as two hexadecimal digits. The arithmetic uses the standard sRGB channel model; this is a notation conversion, not a display calibration or a transformation into a printing color profile.

Both RGB and HEX describe opaque color. This conversion does not invent a transparency channel. Hue wraps around the color wheel when relevant, and all channel calculations retain fractional precision until the final result is formatted.

Compare the HEX result with the live swatch before using it. A screen's brightness and color settings can change its appearance, and rounded output may lose a small amount of precision on repeated conversions. Everything runs locally in your browser; no color values are uploaded or saved by this tool.

How do RGB channels become HEX pairs?

Read the red, green and blue values in that order. For each integer channel, divide by sixteen: the whole number gives the first HEX digit, and the remainder gives the second. Digits above nine are written as A through F. A channel below sixteen still needs two digits, so zero becomes 00 and eight becomes 08. Keeping both digits preserves the positions of the other channels when the three pairs are joined.

For rgb(255, 136, 0), the red value is 15 × 16 + 15, written FF. Green is 8 × 16 + 8, written 88. Blue is zero, written 00. Joining the pairs gives #ff8800. The tool formats letters in lowercase, which describes the same color as #FF8800. Black, rgb(0, 0, 0), becomes #000000. These orange and black examples are also the reproducible calculation checks used for this conversion.

What happens to percentages and decimal channels?

Percentage channels are scaled to the range zero to 255. One hundred percent is 255 and zero percent is zero. Decimal inputs remain fractional during parsing, then the HEX output rounds each channel to the nearest integer. A 50 percent channel is 127.5 and rounds to 128, written 80. If you convert that HEX result back, you get the rounded integer rather than the original fraction. Avoid repeated conversions when your workflow needs to keep more precision than eight bits per channel can represent.

Which RGB input syntax works here?

You can enter rgb(255, 136, 0), the bare comma separated values 255, 136, 0, or the space separated values 255 136 0. Enter exactly three channels and keep the same separator style throughout. Values below zero or above the channel limit are rejected. A missing component is an input error, not an instruction to use zero. Remove any pasted labels that are not part of the RGB notation before trying again.

Should I choose HEX or HEXA?

HEX stores three color channels and has no opacity component. This tool's RGB input is likewise opaque, so the conversion has no transparency to preserve. Choose RGB to HEXA when you want to add an opacity value, or RGBA to HEXA when the source already contains one. RGBA to HEX removes opacity without blending against white or black. That distinction matters for shadows and overlays: the visible result of a translucent color depends on what sits underneath it, while this conversion only changes the notation of its underlying red, green and blue channels.

How do I convert RGB to HEX?

Enter three channels from 0 to 255, or 0% to 100%, such as rgb(255, 136, 0) or 255 136 0. The HEX result and swatch update immediately; use Copy result or select the output text.

What happens to opacity in RGB to HEX conversion?

Both RGB and HEX describe opaque color. This conversion does not invent a transparency channel. Hue wraps around the color wheel when relevant, and all channel calculations retain fractional precision until the final result is formatted.

How precise is the HEX result?

The result uses lowercase #RRGGBB. Each channel is rounded to the nearest integer from zero to 255 before encoding it as two hexadecimal digits.

Can I use this HEX result in CSS?

Yes. The HEX output is a CSS color notation. HEXA puts alpha last; verify support in older clients if your project targets legacy browsers.
